Abstract
The communication begins by a question : why have very few social sciences oriented studies been performed on the management of coral reefs until recently? The respond has shown the growing demand on this field and how the Socmon initiative has provided an offer of methods but also the reluctance of human scientists to be involved in int. Most of the communication have dealt about this reluctance. It was the opportunity to investigate how to use indicators and the methodological problems associated with the fuzzy concept of communities and explain what social monitoring can do efficiently and what they cannot do.
